Do my bad teeth have anything to do with my glaucoma?
A study published in the Journal of Glaucoma analyzed the bacteria in the mouths of 119 patients with POAG vs 78 non-glaucomatous patients. The results showed streptococci bacteria was more commonly found in the mouths of glaucoma patients than in people with healthy eyes. Also, there was a correlation between an increase in dental work and POAG. Interesting results but researchers suggest further investigation is needed.
