Are blue light filters on glasses legit?

Boots, an eyeglass chain in the UK, is under investigation that it mislead customers into paying for a blue light filter saying that it will protect their eyesight. They used the verbiage that gadgets (phones, computers etc) “give off a certain kind of blue light that can cause your retinal cells to deteriorate over time”. The chain could face up to a $60,000 fine.
