What your patient might ask you…

Can I get Zyrtec in a drop?

Yes, you can. The FDA just approved Zerviate. It’s a drop that contains the active ingredient in Zyrtec, Cetirizine.

What is it?
It’s a second generation antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist) that binds competitively to histamine receptor sites to reduce swelling, itching and vasodilation.

What is the dosing?
One drop BID.

Tell me about the clinical trials:
There were three. All met the primary endpoints to relieve itching and redness. Studies included patients age 10 and over.

Any adverse reactions?
Rare, but 1-7% of patients noted ocular hyperemia, instillation site pain, and reduction in visual acuity.
