The latest in the Transitions portfolio, now available through Essilor Labs, will ensure ECPs have the right photochromic lenses to enhance patient lives in all light settings

DALLAS, Oct. 13, 2021 – Today, Essilor announces the launch of Transitions XTRActive new generation lenses now available with Essilor lenses and designs – including Varilux®, the number one progressive lens brand recommended by optometrists and opticians.1 Transitions lenses fill a large need in the market, as nine out of then patients declare they are light sensitive.2 Transitions XTRActive new generation offers additional light protection to enhance the wearer’s life in all settings and introduce a number of performance advancements.

Features and Technologies

By using extra powerful dyes and the latest matrix technology, Transitions XTRActive new generation lenses boast the following features: 

  • Best extra darkness and the best extra light protection in the clear-to-dark photochromic category.3 
  • 35% faster fade back speed than the prior generation and category 2 level darkness in the car4 with visible light activation. 
  • Category 3 levels at 95° F5 – the only photochromic lens on the market to do so. 

Transitions XTRActive new generation lenses replace the current generation of Transitions XTRActive lenses. Managed care availability will remain the same as the prior generation.

Transitions XTRActive new generation will include: 

  • Gray, Brown and Graphite Green in most materials
  • Available with a wide variety of Essilor designs including Varilux® and Eyezen® lenses
  • Plastic 1.50, TREXA™ Trivex 1.53, Airwear® polycarbonate, and Thin & Lite™ 1.67 
  • Compatibility with Transitions XTRActive style mirrors.
