IBM is using Watson to read retinal images.

What is Watson?
“A supercomputer that combines artificial intelligence and sophisticated analytical software for optimal performance as a “question answering” machine.”

A team of researchers are training Watson to recognize irregularities in retinal photographs that are suggestive of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.  Watson claims to recognize details that may often be missed by doctors. (via)
