Contacts with a little bling.

A contact lens implanted with traces of gold could treat glaucoma. Researchers affiliated with Purdue University have developed a prototype contact lens that can electrically stimulate Schlemm’s canal.
A special pair of glasses transmits a signal to the gold in the contacts. The signal is converted into a current which is used to electrically stimulate the muscles around Schlemm’s canal. This decreases the impedance of fluid flow and thus decreases IOP.
Researchers are currently seeking funding in the hopes to develop a clinical trial. (via)
