Have you wondered how to incorporate a specialty lens focus into your own practice? Do you think it’s an unattainable goal due to your current practice setting? Or do you fear that you don’t have the patient population to permit development of a robust scleral lens clinic? Let Dr. Tom Arnold reveal the secrets of success to his world-renowned scleral lens center and show you his journey in adding scleral lens technologies into his primary-care-focused corporate practice.
Dr. Arnold is a graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry. His primary professional interests are specialty contact lenses, management of refractive laser eye surgeries and ocular diseases. In 1992, Dr. Arnold opened his Today’s Vision practice (Sugar Land, Texas), in which he also currently serves as the Vice-President of the Board at Today’s Vision Licensing Corporation. Additionally, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Laser Eye Institute of Houston and adjunct facility at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Only a little shy of 6 years ago did Dr. Arnold became intrigued about scleral contact lenses and their ability to help patients struggling with compromised vision related to corneal pathologies and ocular surface diseases. As a fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society, he has become one of the most passionate speakers on both the practice management and clinical applications of scleral lens technologies. Together with Dr. Nathan Schramm, they organized and moderated the inaugural International Congress of Scleral Contacts (ICSC) in Miami Beach, July 2016.
The ICSC was the first meeting in the world dedicated solely to scleral contact lenses, and its 3rd annual ICSC meeting will be taking place on July 27th 2018 in Ft. Lauderdale featuring top scleral lens experts such as Dr. Tom Arnold. In addition, he has presented at meetings in United Kingdom, South Africa, India, Jordan, Russia, Colombia and Italy.
